Artist's Description

"ONE ROOM SCHOOLHOUSE" by James Barber

This log cabin, built about 1820, was used by Albert Pike, a teacher from the northeast. It is located on the Crawford County Courthouse lawn in western Arkansas and is one of the oldest buildings in the state. Pike taught here before moving to Little Rock. He became involved with politics, law, and publishing. He later served as a general for the Confederacy. He also served as Grand Commander for the Freemasons.
